Richard Jeni, a standup comedian, died of a gunshot wound in an apparent suicide, police said Sunday. Richard Jeni, 49 years old, was found alive by police, but was gravely injured. They were responding to a call that came from Jeni’s girlfriend. The caller told police “my boyfriend shot himself in the face”.

Jeni was best known for his sold out shows and his work on various sitcoms. He has starred in several HBO comedy specials, most recently A Big Steaming Pile of Me during the 2005-06 season.
